2012 is an epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivor. The Mayan long calendar apparently ends sometimes around December 21, 2012. The Mayans failed to specify how exactly the apocalypse would look;so Roland Emmerich,the movie director, created his own scenario of the cataclysm. Giant floods and rains of fire hit the Earth but appenrtly not enough to kill the main character, played by John Cusack.The movie anticipates earthquakes that devastate cities not ready for earthquakes, volcanic activity, and tsunamis that wipe out coastal cities. “2012” is causing hysteria, dozens of books and science websites are prophesying the arrival of doomsday that year. A NASA Scientist talked about his concern at the level of fear he is seeing, two teenagers told him that they didn’t want to see the end of the world so they are thinking of ending their lives. The hysteria is everywhere people are upset and scared, some people say their children are refusing to eat. If you search for the movie online you might bump into a site doing a countdown of the time left for the End of the World: 1143 days, 10 hrs, 48 min and 15 seconds. Should we panic? No, it is true that the Mayan calendar ends around December 21, 2012 but the prophecy talks about the end of the world as we know it, after that date the age of transition to a better world begins.
