Aretha Franklin Best Rock Singer Ever According to Rolling Stone Mag

66-year-old Aretha Franklin has already been crowned the Queen of Soul, but now, in a new poll conducted by renowned U.S. Rolling Stone magazine, the diva is also widely regarded as the greatest singer of the rock era. Runners up included Ray Charles (in the second spot), Elvis Presley (third), and John Lennon (in fifth place).
The list highlights names of 100 singers selected by the voters, and the magazine issue including the poll will be on newsstands this Friday. The feature also contains testimonials by some of the artists themselves, who praise their peers and pay tribute to them for the invaluable influence and inspiration they have provided.
Other classic performers in the top 10 are Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Bob Dylan, and James Brown. Paul McCartney, Little Richard, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, as well as Michael Jackson made appearances on the chart beyond number 10. Of the more contemporary rock singers, notable names were Kurt Cobain, the late grunge pioneer, as well as (also late) Jeff Buckley, whose only full-length studio album is revered by his fellow rock performers the world over.
Have you seen the list? Who has unjustly been left out and who should simply not be there?
